Don’t forget about the giveaway! Last day
Here are some fun things I’ve done:
*interned at an in-house photo studio of a downtown Chicago advertising agency, complete with riding the train & walking near Oprah’s studio
*had my work published in Family Circle magazine (the same one that you see on stands in the grocery store)
*had my work featured by professional photo labs, including in a booth at this year’s Imaging USA
*getting around in the bloggy world (like Momtog)
Oh & did I mention I’m raising four kids under six? That too.
Never a dull moment. But that’s all part of the master plan. It helps me in some small way know what to look for when photographing your own kids. I’m like a kid wrangler, with a camera.

I don’t know if you want the back-story or not (if not, just skip to the giveaway part of this post
), but I thought I’d share a bit of the behind-the-scenes just so you could see how great & from-the-heart this giveaway truly is. A few weeks ago (at the end of October, to be exact) I got a blog comment from Ms. Jen B. over there, impressed by my butter-making attempts
with a quick mention of the vintage hair clips she’s been making. Well I had no idea about any of this! Clearly Jen is talented & gifted, but I didn’t know she was crafty too! So she sent me some pics to show me & a visual link to get me started. Barely a day goes by and Jen writes to tell me she’s making some & will send one my way. Needless to say, her thoughtfulness & generosity were very unexpected. I just kept thinking, wow, she wants to make some extra to send to me?! Really?! A short time after that, I received an unexpected package in the mail with not one, but three vintage flower clips, along with a beautiful note that made me laugh (I didn’t tell you that part, Jen!
). She is truly someone who gives from the heart, no questions asked. And me, well, I was just so delighted & thrilled that I wanted to share some of this loveliness with you!
So, without further ado, a giveaway from both of us to you just in time for Thanksgiving! Thanks for being a part of our lives, thanks for being a part of our blogs, thanks for leaving comments and thanks for being there! A quick shot of Jen wearing the hand-crafted, beautiful vintage flower clips
(I know, she’s completely gorgeous!)
All you have to do? Leave a comment. Yep. THAT easy. THAT simple.
And leave ANOTHER comment HERE and get your name thrown into the hat again! Two chances to win! And hey, if you mention the giveaway in your update status on Facebook (don’t forget the link!) … just come back & tell us and there ya go, another entry.
So two chances, on EACH blog – how fun is that?! We’re giving away (3) sets of two vintage clips and a fourth $5 coffee gift card courtesy of Caribou Coffee. Winners will be announced Thanksgiving morning! All just to say … thanks! (And thanks to Jen for being such a great friend!)
Turns out Jen & I both have hair that gets a little crazy out of control – who knew it, but a vintage hair clip is just the ticket! And the coffee card? Well, it’s -27 below here … a warm cup of coffee or cocoa is definitely in order.
And to get you even further into the mood of the holiday season … some announcements and a HUGE holiday giveaway are just around the corner!
Alright, comments are open … let the fun begin!
The Five Before Thanksgiving | Fairbanks Alaska, PhotographerNovember 20th, 2009Just some thoughts from this crazy, busy, insanely sprinkled with unplanned moments, week: 1. Just some thoughts from this crazy, busy, insanely sprinkled with unplanned moments, week:
1. Getting our hair cut was a family ordeal this week … yes, even including little mini me, which wasn’t planned but was needed (here’s hoping this doesn’t upset grandma & granny too much! she’s just got such fine hair & it was becoming a tangled mess back there – crazy enough it makes her look so much older!) … she was eatin’ it up by the big ole’ spoonful though (as my favorite Southern Belle likes to say).
2. Spent some time packaging what seemed like a million things for this week (but breathing a sigh of relief that everyone is getting everything before the onset of the holiday season – see, my deadlines don’t seem so bad after-all now do they
). I heard another photographer mention that she loves when the orders & shipments arrive at her studio. Loves packaging them up to send off to their new homes … but then misses them just a tad when they are not there to look at anymore. I so feel that! It probably sounds funny. Right now I think I will miss this glorious image (as a 20×30 canvas) the most. I hope their mom takes a snapshot of it in the house & sends it over to share.
3. Homemade quilts and flower clips … they know who they are
what a wonderful surprise to our week; we couldn’t be more blessed with friends like you guys!
4. Big hugs & love to Granny & Gramps! The post-Halloween dress-up costumes are a HUGE hit. Everyone has been everything from lady(or boy)bugs to Transformers to superheroes and lots of imaginative things in between that just seemed to fit the bill of dress-up but didn’t have a name. Gotta love it.
5. And, with a crazy hectic week that seemed to be in cahoots with the energizer bunny … we did a lot of reading. A LOT. It seemed to provide a sense of calm & peace on so many levels. It just felt right. Needless to say …
“And the tree was happy.”
