A friend shared this on twitter recently … from her tumblr page:

In case it’s hard to read here, she wrote:

I have a close friend that once said something to me that has served as a great reminder … She’s in her late 30′s, divorced, no kids, great mind, body & spirit, has a wonderful extended family including her parents, siblings, their families & of course friends, lots & lots of friends (more friends than people I have met in my lifetime). She makes good money (at a job she loves), has a beautiful home (in a city that I love) & travels (both abroad & domestically) regularly, as in nearly once a month & not always for pleasure as she often travels to help those in need. I said to her one day while visiting about her recent travels, I believe it was when she took a year off of work to live in Paris, “Oh to live your life … it must be so nice.”

to which her reply was, “And all I ever wanted was the life that you have, with a husband & kids.”

It’s one of those cliches ‘you always want what you don’t have’ or ‘the grass is always greener on the other side’ when in reality things aren’t always what they seem. I’m reminded of how truly fortunate I am to have a loving husband, four great kids &  career that I love and can work around my family’s schedule. It’s taught me to soak up the good times, be grateful for those that are there for me in the bad (because the bad times are inevitable & a part of life) and to always be content in living for today, not dreaming away the future or wishing away the past.

Life the life you were meant to live and live it to the fullest.

Being busy. Beyond belief.

And beautiful gifts.

{An example of a dozen beautiful gifts ;) farm fresh – quite literally}

Making room for play time. And gardens. And the rainy season.

do you see the heart? *smile*
